State Street Snacks

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes popcorn to pop?

It's really quite simple. The popcorn kernel contains moisture usually in the 16-20% range. When it is heated to the proper temperature the moisture turns to steam and unable to escape the kernel explodes. The popping noise we hear it the actual bursting of the hard outer shell.

Why does State Street’s Pecan Caramel Popcorn have such a unique dark color?
In order to achieve our unique and unequalled taste we use real blackstrap molasses (instead of the cheaper alternative of Brown sugar like most companies). The blackstrap gives us the "Old Tyme" flavor as well as our dark color.

Where can I purchase State Street Snacks products in my market?
Please refer to the Where Can I Purchase Section of our web page.

How come my supermarket carries State Street sometimes but not others?
Because we are a small company it is difficult for us to get permanent placement in many supermarkets. They do however take our products in on what is called and "In and Out Program". In short this means they make a one time purchase and stock our products until they sell out. Once they are out they do not replace them until the next bulk purchase.

How can I help get your products in my supermarket?
There are actually two things you can do. The best way you can help is to purchase our products whenever you see them offered and convinvce as many of your friends as you can to do the same. The second thing you can do is speak with the store manager at your favorite supermarket and ask them when they will have State Street again. Some of the supermarkets that have carried our products are Piggly Wiggly, Bi-Lo, Food Lion and Kroger’s.

Why do I get more Pecans in some bags and less in others?
In order to achieve our unique flavor we make our products in kettles in small batches. While this gives us an incredible taste it does not always allow for the pecans to be evenly mixed. While we put the same pounds of pecans in every batch sometimes they get grouped together because of the thickness of our mix. We do everything we can to spread them out and try to check every bag in production but they sometimes slip past us.
